The name Sara Lily George may not be a familiar name to you.
how about G. Francis Udayapan?
Francis is Sara Lily's son.
The suffering of Sara Lily George, a mother who has lost her son, is witnessed by an entire nation.
According to reports, the deceased had been arrested and taken into police custody on April 14th 2004, on charges of an alleged theft of a hand-phone and the use of a stolen motorbike. Brickfields police had claimed that Francis escaped on April 16th by jumping out of the first floor window whilst being taken for interrogation, then squeezing himself through a hole in the fence and jumping into the Klang river, behind the police station.
Francis's body was fished out of a river in May 2004. His mother claims her son was beaten to death by police and his body later thrown into a nearby river.
Representatives and supporters from NGOs and interest groups have described the discovered body as looking too good and too intact for one that has been submerged in water for 37 days (the amount of time that elapsed since the deceased allegedly jumped into the Klang river).
Sara Lily has also complained that she, her family members and her lawyers have apparently been harassed by the police, over their allegations concerning the case.
Which avenue could Sara Lily go to seek justice, a fair answer to how her son died?
The fake Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission (IPCMC) has the IGP as a compulsory member. Investigation would still be biased, not just due to his presense but also by unwritten code to protect one another and consequences of breaking ranks. It is a diluted version of a complaints and misconduct commission.
“Something has to be done. Today it’s Francis (that we are mourning). We don’t know how many more victims of injustice there will be,”
If you are thinking, "it does not affect me. my children will not end up like this.", please don't. Lulu has seen lovely, lovely people who have had not-so-good children. And you don't even have to be bad to be dragged into the police station. Look at the Hindraf31.
The IPCMC, considered the most crucial of the 125 recommendations made by Royal Commission to Enhance the Operation and Management of the Royal Malaysia Police.
Lulu wants a real Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission, not the fake they've given us.
