Lulu Feels SO Embarassed for Dr Sheikh Muszaphar

i really do.

Thanks to Aisehman, Lulu checked out the NASA website and learnt that this flight is Expedition16.

And in this entry dated Sept 6th [time stamp is on the bottom right corner], Lulu learnt that the crew consists of
Commander Peggy A. Whitson Whitson
Flight Engineer Yuri Malenchenko
Flight Engineer Daniel M. Tani
Flight Engineer LĂ©opold Eyharts
Flight Engineer Garrett E. Reisman
and our glorious
Spaceflight Participant Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor

everyone has a glorious write-up. In fact, there's so much to say about them, there a "+Biography".
Our glorious "Spaceflight Participant" pula, you know what they have to say about his participation? Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor will launch with Expedition 16 and land with Expedition 15.

Aiyoh... Lulu feels SO embarassed for him. At least they didnt put "Got a free ticket thanks to the purchase of 10 Sukhoi Su-30 MKN jet fighters from Russia".
But Lulu guess, the way the Malaysian government and the media play it up, the jaguh kampung would probably still reign in the kampung. The government is probably going to send millions for the PM, his Mrs, and all the other freeloaders to see the "spaceflight participant" blast off from Kazakhstan. Pity they couldnt spare a dime for the participants of the Special Olympics.

Wonder what his blog entry on this would be like? You think it would be anything like lulu's?

If AAB and freeloaders are going to Kazakhstan, maybe Sheik will take the entire cabinet with him into space and leave them permanently on the ISS?

If he does that, then we can proudly say, "Malaysia's spaceflight participant manages the critical loading & balance of the Expedition 16 spacecraft with Malaysian produced ballast."

why are you critising the astronaut program ? isn't there a saying "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind" !!

He's doing kementerian sains a favour by investigating how teh tarik, batu seremban, spinning gasing reaction in space, something cannot achieve in malaysia until 2020.

And in the mean time, China is trying to beat Americans back to the moon.(http://science.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=07/09/22/1940230&from=rss)

And we want to 'main masak-masak' in space.

The reporter of BBC World Service call him space man. And reported that he will try to fast in space. Ending the report, the reporter quip that the first task for Malaysian space man is to find Mecca from space.

From wikipedia : The ISS uses Greenwich mean time (GMT) to regulate its onboard day. This is roughly equidistant between its two control centres in Houston and Moscow. [49] The windows are covered at "night" to give the impression of darkness since it experiences 16 sunrises/sunsets a day.

space participant? I think the Americans were being nice. It should be "Space TOURISTt". Which is exactly what he is, and he is actually not the first.

The first space tourist was a businessman. I believe the last publicized space tourist was Iran-American businesswoman, Anousheh Ansari. ANYONE can go into space, as long as you pay around US$20 million.

So this is NO BIG DEAL. Just spend the money, you get the ticket.

He's a paid passenger/baggage. Bolehland paid for the ticket for vanity reason - for dubious bragging rights.

Remember, our 30 sen per litre of petrol price hike goes into paying for the fare of this 'glorious' parasitic space-idiot

Why $30 Million USD for sending another "spaceflight participant"? according to wikipedia and all records at NASA site, other spaceflight participants paid only USD 20 Million!!!!

any guess where the other USD 10 Million going to? and thats MYR 38 Million!!!!!! multiply by 2 if you consider BOTH the spaceflight participants..... = MYR 76 Million into somebody's pockets....

anon5:08pm,
i was very excited to read your revelation.
wiki's entry on "space travel" http://wikitravel.org/en/Spaceconcurred with you,
but
"spaceflight participant" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spaceflight_participant has the updated pricetag of US30mil

thanks for checking, and showing us the importance of checking prices quoted by ministers though.

Now inflation ma. Nothing to shout about 50% increase in price for a ticket to space. Compare to our screw drivers and car jacks.

dr. muszaphar...ur just a space flight participant...i duno what is m'sia proving for that matter.an ego boosting feel for the majority bunch.

sure or not he will be useless? now foreign bimbos will think Malaysian men look like him.

Frankly, sending someone up into space is completely worthless as both Americans and Russians are too careful with their information to allow much of a "technology transfer".

And if we live in denial, we could probably convince ourselves that we're ready for space. Is the ego boosting going to work??

But really, it is an exercise in futility. And no, there is no envy involved.

wasting taxpayers money. he is the third asian(islam) to go to space. first is saudi arabia, second paid us20 million and malaysia boleh paid 30 million. we could have settled our debts to the world bank

eh hello. the space trip is free, because malaysia bought those 10 sukhoi interceptors with palm oil. then when the palm oil prices soared during transaction then there was an offset of USD50million where the russians hutang we malaysians la. so the russians offered 2 org for space programme. how i know this? im with wisma putra. :)

Anonymous said...

you got the facts wrong. it is 18 Sukhoi 30-MKM fighter jets, not 10. And it is a BILLION-DOLLAR PURCHASE.

Just thinking aloud... I wonder what the comments of the detractors would be if the one chosen was kapt lim or engr muthu...

Sorry... no offense... but while some comments are quite rational and based on facts, many are just irrelevant sneers and insults with no bearing at all to the actual program.

Personally, I am excited we got our first astronaut. He is a spaceflight participant but he's gone to space with our own agenda and not nasa's or roskosmos. Anything wrong with that? No.

The Malaysian taxpayers are paying for his fare but the American and Russian taxpayers are paying their astronauts/cosmonauts too. The USA is trillions in debt but they're still going to space. So what?

Dr SMS is a qualified Medical doctor, orthopaedic surgent, UKM lecturer, beat out 10000 hopefuls and trained for a year in Russia. I don't think we should think less of him if he is a part time model.

I just hope that we will continue to have a really good space program like building a rocket to the moon, or becoming an airport for Virgin Galactic or launching our own space probe.... Malaysia is moving the right direction and should spend more on scientific endeavours. I know I am going pay more for my petrol and food but I will feel better that it will be going for science.

And I hope we send more angkasawan to space cos the earth is becoming filled with negative people.
